‘Barnsley – A portrait of the town and its people’ is part of the Museums extensive archive collection and captures the warmth, humour and pride that is in abundance in the borough.
The premier is the first in a series of film showings and the perfect opportunity for people to come together digitally and share memories, stories and experiences of the past.
As well as the film premier, Barnsley Museums have a full digital programme planned for the forthcoming months which includes online jigsaws, 360 tours of unseen gallery spaces, poetry moments, virtual family activities and drawing experiences plus much more.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said:
In these unprecedented times it is important for people and communities to feel connected. Although we may not be able to do this physically, we can reach out to each other through innovation, technology and digital channels. Barnsley Museums want to ensure that while people are at home, they can still engage with each other as well as the towns history, beauty and collections. Always forward thinking and creative, the film showings are just one way over the forthcoming weeks and months that Barnsley Museums hope to do this.
