Barnsley Museums Highly Commended in National Award
Barnsley Museums have been nominated in the Museums and Heritage Awards 2021 in the category, Best Use of Digital.
The Museums were delighted to be recognised for their outstanding digital output which they shared with audiences throughout the pandemic. When the doors to their inside spaces closed in March 2020, they quickly turned their physical programme into a creative and engaging digital one. They were determined to offer ways for people to connect with Barnsley’s history, collections and stories from the comfort of their home.
Activities included, interactive games, virtual tours, immersive experiences, digital concerts, wellbeing videos plus much more.
Barnsley Museums were highly commended in the category alongside the National Gallery of Scotland with the National Portrait Gallery being the overall winner.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place at Barnsley Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised in the ‘Digital Impact’ category alongside National Galleries who have produced such exceptional digital work during the pandemic. Our aim was always to keep connected to our audiences, offering comfort at times when it was needed most, and this award is a testimony to the hard work and creatively of the entire museum service.”
